Bydureon (exenatide) is a relatively new treatment used along with lifestyle changes, such as eating a healthy diet and engaging in exercise, to help manage type 2 diabetes. A Different Approach to Type 2 Diabetes

• A an orange vial connector.

The first step is to prepare the solution; each kit includes detailed, easy-to-follow instructions on doing so. Note that once prepared, the solution should be injected immediately; delaying can cause the solution to clump and clog the syringe.

Once the medication is prepared and loaded in the syringe, administration is similar to using insulin:

• Bydureon should be injected into the stomach, upper thighs, or back of upper arms.
• Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab.
• Insert the needle and depress plunger.
• Remove needle and dispose of syringe.

During treatment, blood sugar should be checked frequently to ensure the medication is working; more thorough checkups at a doctor's office are also advisable.

Note that if stockpiling more than a 4-week supply of Bydureon, excess kits should be kept in a cool location, preferably in a refrigerator.

Bydureon and Weight Loss

Some patients experience significant weight loss while taking exenatide (either as once-a-week Bydureon or daily Byetta), particularly if also taking metformin, though others have no significant change. However, clients are not encouraged to buy Bydureon as a weight-loss treatment; it can produce serious side effects in patients who do not have type 2 diabetes.
